The Victron Isolation Transformer 7000W 230V is a professional-grade marine isolation transformer designed to provide complete electrical isolation between shore power and a vessel's onboard AC electrical system. Essential for safety and galvanic corrosion prevention in any vessel connected to shore power, it eliminates the need for separate galvanic isolators and polarity alarms while providing a clean, isolated AC supply for the entire vessel.
By feeding shore power to the transformer's primary winding and connecting the vessel to the secondary, the Isolation Transformer completely breaks electrical continuity between the shore ground and the vessel. All metal parts on the vessel are connected to the neutral output on the secondary side, ensuring that GFCIs and circuit breakers function correctly in the event of a fault — providing the same level of electrical safety as a conventional onshore installation, without the galvanic corrosion risk of a direct shore ground connection.
The transformer operates with a 1:1.05 voltage conversion ratio, stepping a 230V shore supply up to 240V on the vessel side. This 5% boost compensates for the shore power voltage drops that commonly occur in marinas, ensuring the onboard AC system receives adequate voltage regardless of marina supply quality. The unit is compatible with both 50Hz and 60Hz systems, though it cannot convert between frequencies.
A built-in soft start circuit prevents the shore power circuit breaker from tripping due to transformer inrush current when the unit is switched on — a critical feature for marina electrical systems with limited supply capacity. A temperature-controlled fan provides active cooling, and automatic overtemperature shutdown protects the transformer under sustained overload conditions.
Housed in a robust blue aluminium enclosure (RAL5012) rated IP21, the Victron Isolation Transformer 7000W is designed for fixed installation inside a vessel using the included hanging bracket and mounting screws. It is certified to EN 60076 and suitable for use in both 50Hz and 60Hz marina environments worldwide.
Features
Complete Galvanic Isolation from Shore Power
The isolation transformer completely breaks electrical continuity between the shore ground and the vessel, eliminating galvanic corrosion caused by stray currents between the shore earth connection and immersed metal parts — protecting propellers, shafts, anodes, and hull fittings from accelerated electrolytic attack.
Full Electrical Safety — Replaces Galvanic Isolators and Polarity Alarms
By connecting all vessel metal parts to the isolated secondary neutral, GFCIs and circuit breakers function correctly in the event of any fault — providing full electrical safety without the limitations of direct shore grounding, while eliminating the need for separate galvanic isolators or polarity alarm devices.
1:1.05 Voltage Ratio — 5% Output Voltage Boost
The toroidal transformer operates with a 1:1.05 turns ratio, converting a 230V shore input to 240V on the vessel output. This built-in 5% boost compensates for the voltage drops commonly encountered in marina shore power supplies, ensuring adequate onboard AC voltage under load.
Soft Start — Prevents Shore Circuit Breaker Tripping
An integrated inrush current limiter (soft start circuit) reduces the high inrush current at switch-on that would otherwise trip a marina shore power circuit breaker. This is a standard feature on all Victron isolation transformers and is particularly important for marinas with tight circuit breaker tolerances.
Temperature-Controlled Fan Cooling and Overtemperature Protection
An internal fan with temperature-controlled variable speed provides active cooling as load increases. Automatic overtemperature shutdown protects the transformer from damage under sustained overload or high ambient temperature conditions, with manual reset required after a thermal shutdown event.
Toroidal Core Construction — Low Noise and High Efficiency
The toroidal wound transformer core provides inherently low electromagnetic noise and high power conversion efficiency compared to conventional laminated core designs, making it well suited to sensitive onboard electronics environments where interference must be minimised.
Out-of-Water Safety Link
Included jumper wires allow the shore earth (PE) to be connected directly to the vessel earth (PE) within the transformer enclosure when the vessel is on land for winter storage or maintenance — restoring the shore ground connection for safe use while hauled out, in accordance with electrical safety regulations.
32A Continuous Output Current Rating
Rated at 32A continuous output current at 240V, the 7000W Isolation Transformer supports the full electrical demand of a large vessel, including high-consumption appliances such as air conditioning, electric cooking, and battery charging systems operating simultaneously.
