Victron Smart Battery Management System 12/200

The Victron Smart BMS 12/200 is an all-in-one Battery Management System designed specifically for 12V systems using Victron Lithium Battery Smart 12.8V (LiFePO₄) batteries — particularly in vehicles and boats equipped with a 12V alternator. Combining a Current Limiter, Battery Combiner, and Battery Protector in a single compact unit, it provides comprehensive protection and control for both the lithium battery bank and the alternator in a way that conventional BMS solutions cannot.

At the heart of the Smart BMS 12/200 is its dedicated Alternator/Starter Batt+ port, which electronically limits input current to approximately 90% of the installed fuse rating — preventing alternator overload and protecting the lithium battery from excessive charge current. One-way traffic from the alternator to the battery ensures the starter battery is never drained by the lithium bank. Simultaneously, the System+ port supports up to 200A continuous charge and discharge current in both directions for connecting inverters, inverter/chargers, solar chargers, and DC loads.

The Smart BMS 12/200 continuously monitors each individual battery cell and automatically disconnects the alternator, charge sources, or DC loads in the event of low cell voltage, high cell voltage, or overtemperature — protecting the battery bank from damage under any operating condition. A pre-alarm output provides an early warning signal via relay, LED, or buzzer before the BMS triggers a full disconnect.

Built-in Bluetooth Smart enables monitoring and configuration via the VictronConnect app, including Instant Readout — which displays key BMS values in real time in the device list without requiring a paired connection. A programmable remote on/off terminal supports multiple operating modes for flexible system control. Using MOSFET switches throughout, the Smart BMS 12/200 is fully ignition-proof and rated IP65 for electronics protection.

Integrated Alternator Protection and Current Limiting

The dedicated Alternator/Starter Batt+ port electronically limits input current to approximately 90% of the fuse rating — preventing alternator overload and protecting the lithium battery from excessive charge current. A 100A fuse, for example, limits input to approximately 90A, making any size 12V alternator safe to connect directly to the lithium battery bank.

200A System+ Power Port

The System+ port supports up to 200A continuous current in both charge and discharge directions, enabling direct connection of inverters, inverter/chargers, solar chargers, and DC loads to the lithium battery — with a peak discharge capability of 400A for short-duration surge demands.

Individual Cell Monitoring and Automatic Disconnect

The Smart BMS 12/200 monitors each individual cell within every connected battery and automatically disconnects the alternator, charge sources, or DC loads in the event of low cell voltage, high cell voltage, or overtemperature — providing comprehensive protection across all operating conditions.

Bluetooth Smart with Instant Readout

Built-in Bluetooth Smart pairs with the VictronConnect app for real-time monitoring and full configuration. Instant Readout displays key BMS parameters — including warnings, alarms, and errors — directly in the VictronConnect device list without requiring a paired connection, enabling at-a-glance diagnostics.

Pre-Alarm Output

A dedicated pre-alarm output provides an early warning signal before the BMS triggers a full battery disconnect. It can drive a relay, LED indicator, or acoustic buzzer to alert the user in time to take preventive action and avoid a system shutdown.

Programmable Remote On/Off Terminal

The remote on/off terminal supports multiple configurable operating modes — interrupting only the Alternator port, interrupting both the Alternator and System+ ports, or shutting down the entire system including the BMS — providing flexible system control to suit different installation requirements.

MOSFET Switches — Ignition Proof

All switching within the Smart BMS 12/200 is performed by MOSFET transistors rather than mechanical relays, making the unit fully ignition-proof and suitable for use in fuel vapour environments on boats and vehicles.
