The Victron BMV-712 Smart is a high-precision battery monitor with built-in Bluetooth, designed to provide comprehensive real-time and historical monitoring of any 12V, 24V, or 48V battery bank from 1Ah to 9999Ah. The essential function of the BMV-712 Smart is to calculate amp-hours consumed and state of charge — tracking precisely how much energy enters and leaves the battery so users always know how much capacity remains and how long the battery will last at the current rate of discharge.
Built-in Bluetooth Smart enables direct wireless pairing with the VictronConnect app on iOS and Android smartphones and tablets — without needing a GX device or computer. From the app, users can monitor all live data on a single screen, customise settings, review 46-day historical trend data for voltage, current, state of charge, and auxiliary input, and update firmware wirelessly when new features become available.
In addition to battery voltage, current, power, amp-hours consumed, and state of charge, the BMV-712 Smart features a versatile auxiliary input that can be configured for one of three functions: monitoring the voltage of a second or starter battery, midpoint voltage monitoring for series-connected battery strings (with early warning of a failing battery or cell), or connection of an optional temperature sensor for battery temperature measurement and compensation. All three auxiliary functions can trigger independent programmable alarms and relay actions.
The included 500A/50mV quick-connect shunt allows all electrical connections to be made at the shunt in the battery compartment, with the display head unit connected via the included 10-metre RJ12 cable — keeping high-current wiring away from the display. A VE.Direct port enables direct connection to a Victron GX device for integration into a full system monitoring setup with VRM remote access. A bi-stable relay prevents increased current draw during alarm conditions.
Features
Bluetooth Smart with VictronConnect App
Built-in Bluetooth Smart pairs wirelessly with the VictronConnect app on iOS and Android devices, providing real-time monitoring of all battery parameters, full settings configuration, 46-day historical trend data, and wireless firmware updates — all from a smartphone without any additional hardware.
Comprehensive Battery Monitoring
Monitors and displays battery voltage, current, power, amp-hours consumed, state of charge, and time remaining at the current rate of discharge — providing a complete picture of battery health and capacity status at all times for any battery bank from 1Ah to 9999Ah.
Versatile Auxiliary Input — Starter Battery / Midpoint / Temperature
The auxiliary input can be configured for three different functions: second or starter battery voltage monitoring, midpoint voltage monitoring for series-connected battery banks (providing early warning of a failing battery or cell), or connection of an optional temperature sensor (ASS000100000) for battery temperature measurement down to −20°C.
Midpoint Voltage Monitoring for Battery Bank Protection
When batteries are connected in series, a single failing battery or cell causes an imbalance in the midpoint voltage. The BMV-712 Smart measures this midpoint deviation and generates a programmable alarm before serious damage occurs — protecting large, expensive battery banks from undetected cell or battery failure.
Programmable Alarms and Bi-Stable Relay
Fully programmable alarm thresholds for voltage, state of charge, temperature, and auxiliary input allow the BMV-712 Smart to trigger visual and audible alerts at user-defined levels. The bi-stable relay (60V/1A, normally open) can be configured to disconnect non-critical loads, start a generator, or trigger external alarms — and draws no additional current in the alarm state.
500A Quick-Connect Shunt — Included
The included 500A/50mV shunt features a quick-connect PCB that accepts all electrical connections in the battery compartment, with the display head unit connected via the 10-metre RJ12 cable. The shunt is also compatible with optional 1000A, 2000A, and 6000A shunts for higher-current installations, using the same quick-connect PCB.
VE.Direct Port for GX Device Integration
The built-in VE.Direct port connects directly to a Victron GX device — such as the Cerbo GX or Ekrano GX — enabling all BMV-712 Smart data to be displayed on the GX device and logged remotely via the Victron VRM portal. Up to four BMV units can be connected directly to a GX device, with additional units supported via a USB hub.
