The Victron Orion 12/27.6-12A is a fully isolated DC-DC battery charger that steps a 12V input up to a fixed 27.6V output at up to 12A continuous current, for charging a 24V lead-acid battery bank from a 12V source - for example a secondary 24V service bank charged from a vessel's or vehicle's primary 12V system. 27.6V is a standard float/absorption charge voltage for 24V lead-acid batteries, so the converter's fixed output is purpose-set for this charging role rather than general-purpose voltage conversion.
Galvanic isolation between input, output, and case keeps the two battery systems fully separated, important where the 12V and 24V negatives cannot share a common ground. A remote on/off terminal eliminates the need for a high-current switch in the input wiring - the charger can be switched with a low-power switch or an external control signal such as an engine run/stop switch.
The unit is short-circuit proof and protected against overheating, with output automatically reduced at high ambient temperature to protect the converter and connected battery. It uses screw terminals for its DC connections, requiring no special tools to install.
Because the output voltage is fixed rather than adjustable, this model is not intended for general DC-DC conversion duties - for a variable-output isolated converter, see the standard adjustable-output Orion-Tr isolated range instead.
Features
Fixed 27.6V Output - Purpose-Built for 24V Battery Charging
Delivers a fixed 27.6V output, a standard float/absorption charge voltage for 24V lead-acid batteries, so the charger is purpose-set for charging a 24V bank rather than general voltage conversion.
Fully Isolated - Independent Ground Reference
Galvanic isolation between input, output, and case keeps the 12V source and 24V battery bank fully separated - important where the two systems cannot share a common ground.
Remote On/Off Terminal
Eliminates the need for a high-current switch in the input wiring - operate with a low-power switch or an external control signal such as an engine run/stop switch.
Short-Circuit Proof, Thermal Protection
The charger is short-circuit proof, with output automatically reduced at high ambient temperature to protect both the converter and the connected battery.
Screw Terminal Connections
Uses screw terminals for its DC connections, requiring no special tools for installation.
