Victron Energy Orion IP67 DC-DC Converter

The Victron Orion IP67 24/12 DC-DC Converter is a completely encapsulated, non-isolated step-down converter designed to power 12V loads and accessories from a 24V battery bank. Available in three current ratings — 5A (60W), 10A (120W), and 20A (240W) — all models feature a cast aluminium enclosure with resin-moulded electronics that is fully waterproof, shockproof, oil resistant, and ignition protected. Rated IP67 for complete dust protection and temporary submersion, the Orion IP67 can be installed in engine bays, machine rooms, bilges, and any wet or dirty environment where conventional converters would be at risk of damage.

The wide 15–40V DC input voltage range ensures a stable 12V output during the voltage surges and sags that occur when other high-current equipment — such as starters, winches, or anchor windlasses — connects to the same 24V battery bank. The output voltage is fixed at 12V ±3%, regulated against input voltage variation and load changes. An undervoltage shutdown at 13V (restart at 14V) protects the source battery from excessive discharge.

Extra-long 1.8-metre (5.9-foot) input and output cables are included with all three models — eliminating the need for intermediate cable joints in most installation configurations. Protection features include hiccup-mode overload protection (which automatically recovers once the fault is cleared), short-circuit proof output, and thermal protection with automatic output derating at 3% per °C above 40°C — protecting the converter from damage under sustained high-temperature or overload conditions. Reverse polarity protection requires an external fuse or circuit breaker on the positive input cable (not included).

IP67 Fully Sealed — Waterproof, Shockproof, Ignition Protected

Cast aluminium enclosure with resin-moulded electronics provides full IP67 protection against dust ingress and temporary submersion, along with resistance to oil, chemicals, and shock — making the Orion IP67 suitable for permanent installation in engine bays, machine rooms, bilges, and other wet or harsh environments where conventional converters would be damaged.

Wide 15–40V Input Voltage Range

The wide input voltage range of 15–40V DC ensures a stable 12V output is maintained during the voltage surges and sags that occur on 24V battery systems when high-current loads such as starters, windlasses, and heavy DC equipment connect and disconnect from the same bus.

Fixed 12V ±3% Regulated Output

The output voltage is regulated to 12V ±3% against changes in input voltage (15–40V) and output load (0–100%) — providing stable power to 12V electronics, lighting, instrumentation, and accessories regardless of 24V bus voltage fluctuations.

Extra-Long 1.8-Metre Input and Output Cables Included

All three models are supplied with 1.8-metre (5.9-foot) input and output cables — long enough to reach battery terminals and 12V load distribution points in the majority of installation configurations without requiring intermediate cable joints or extensions.

Hiccup-Mode Overload Protection — Self-Recovering

In the event of an output overload, the converter enters hiccup mode — reducing output current to protect against damage and automatically recovering once the fault condition is removed. Short-circuit proof output prevents damage to the converter under direct short-circuit conditions on the output terminals.

Thermal Protection with Automatic Derating

Output current is automatically derated at 3% per °C above 40°C ambient temperature — reducing output to protect the converter in high-temperature installations while continuing to deliver power at the reduced level rather than shutting down completely.

Undervoltage Shutdown and Restart

The converter shuts down automatically when the 24V input drops below 13V — protecting the source battery from excessive discharge. It restarts automatically when the input voltage recovers above 14V, ensuring unattended operation without manual intervention after a low-voltage event.

Non-Isolated Design — High Efficiency

The non-isolated (buck converter) design provides high conversion efficiency — 93% for the 5A and 10A models, and 95% for the 20A model — minimising heat generation and energy loss compared to transformer-isolated converter designs at equivalent power levels.
