The Victron MultiPlus-II 3000VA 120V is the most advanced multifunctional inverter/charger in the Victron 3kVA range - combining the proven MultiPlus inverter/charger platform with Energy Storage System (ESS) functionality, external current sensor capability, and built-in anti-islanding protection in a single compact unit. Available in four variants for the North American market - 12/3000/120-50 120V, 12/3000/120-50 2x120V, 24/3000/70-50 120V, and 24/3000/70-50 2x120V - all models deliver 3000 VA of continuous inverter output and include a high-speed 50A AC transfer switch, two AC outputs, PowerAssist, PowerControl, and full VE.Bus system integration. Certified to UL 458 for North American installations.
The 2x120V variants (12V and 24V) are designed specifically for North American 50A split-phase shore power and RV applications, accepting both legs of a 120/240V split-phase supply. The L1 output provides no-break UPS functionality with a transfer time of less than 18 milliseconds, while the L2 output transfers in approximately 40 milliseconds. In inverter mode both output lines deliver 120VAC - preventing 240V loads such as water heaters and air conditioners from drawing from the battery. The single-phase 120V variants (12V and 24V) operate on single-phase 90–140V AC input and output, sharing the same full feature set including PowerAssist, ESS compatibility, and parallel/three-phase scalability.
The external current sensor input - standard on all MultiPlus-II models - extends PowerControl and PowerAssist to 100A, enabling self-consumption optimisation in ESS and grid-tied solar installations without requiring a separate energy meter. The built-in anti-islanding protection meets grid connection requirements across an increasingly long list of country approvals, making the MultiPlus-II the correct choice for any grid-connected ESS installation. A programmable relay supports general alarm, DC undervoltage, or generator start/stop functions.
Full system integration is available via VE.Bus - connecting to Victron GX devices (Cerbo GX, Ekrano GX), the VRM Online Portal, and the VictronConnect app for local and remote monitoring, configuration, firmware updates, and alarm management. System scalability is extensive: up to six units can be connected in parallel, three units configured for three-phase operation, or two units stacked for split-phase output - enabling systems from 3kVA to over 18kVA from a single model family.
Features
True Sine Wave Inverter-3000 VA / 2400W Continuous
Delivers a clean 120 VAC ± 2% true sine wave output at 60 Hz with 3000 VA / 2400W continuous power at 25°C and 5500W peak - handling motor startup surges and high-demand loads without distortion or voltage drop across all four variants.
PowerAssist-Boosting Shore or Generator Power
When connected AC power is insufficient for the connected loads, PowerAssist automatically supplements the supply with power drawn from the battery - adding up to 25A (3000 VA / 120V) to the available AC input current. Once demand drops, the surplus input is used to recharge the battery, maximising every available watt from the AC source.
PowerControl-Preventing AC Source Overload
A maximum AC input current limit is set on the MultiPlus-II, which then monitors all connected loads and automatically reduces battery charging as needed to prevent the shore supply or generator from being overloaded - enabling smaller generators to safely power larger systems.
External Current Sensor-100A PowerControl and PowerAssist
The optional 100A:50mA external current sensor (CTR110000500) extends PowerControl and PowerAssist to monitor and manage the full 100A grid connection - enabling self-consumption optimisation in ESS installations and more precise load management than internal current sensing alone provides.
No-Break UPS Transfer-Under 20 Milliseconds
In the event of shore power or generator failure the MultiPlus-II switches to inverter operation in less than 20 milliseconds on the main output - fast enough that computers, communication equipment, and sensitive electronics continue to operate without interruption. On the 2x120V models the L2 output transfers in approximately 40 milliseconds.
Two AC Outputs-Primary UPS and Auxiliary Non-Critical
The primary output (AC-out-1) provides uninterrupted UPS power. The secondary output (AC-out-2) is live only when an AC source is present - ideal for non-critical loads such as water heaters, EV chargers, and 240V appliances that should not draw from the battery when running on inverter power.
ESS Functionality and Anti-Islanding
The MultiPlus-II is the key component in a Victron Energy Storage System, providing the flexibility to combine with MPPT solar chargers or grid-tie PV inverters. Built-in anti-islanding protection and an increasingly long list of country certifications make it suitable for grid-connected ESS installations in residential, commercial, and marine applications.
Parallel, Split-Phase, and Three-Phase Scalability
Up to six MultiPlus-II units can be connected in parallel for higher power output. Three units can be configured for three-phase operation, and two units stacked for 120/240V split-phase output - enabling systems from 3kVA to over 18kVA from a single model family without any additional power electronics.
