The Victron Orion-Tr Smart 12/12-30A is a non-isolated DC-DC battery charger with built-in Bluetooth, serving as both an adaptive battery charger and a constant-voltage power supply. It is intended for dual battery systems in vehicles and boats where the alternator and starter battery charge a separate 12V service battery - particularly useful with Euro 5/Euro 6 smart alternators that often supply too low a charging voltage, or where long cable runs cause voltage drop.

Fully programmable via the VictronConnect app, it offers an adaptive 3-stage charge algorithm (bulk, absorption, float) for lead-acid batteries - keeping absorption time short after shallow discharges to prevent overcharging, and extending it after deep discharges for a complete recharge - or a fixed 2-hour absorption time for lithium batteries. A fixed output voltage can also be selected instead, for use as a simple regulated power supply.

Smart alternator compatibility is built in via an engine-running detection mechanism, and a remote on/off connector accepts a switch or relay contact for external control. All models are short-circuit proof, high-temperature protected with automatic output reduction, and an unlimited number of units can be paralleled to increase output current.

Bluetooth Smart lets any compatible phone or tablet monitor and configure the charger and apply software updates, with Instant Readout showing key data - including warnings and alarms - on the VictronConnect device list without needing to connect.
