The Victron RJ12 UTP Cable connects a BMV battery monitor's shunt to its head unit display. A cable of this type is included as standard with every BMV battery monitor, but if the included length is too long or too short for a particular installation, it can be replaced with one of these cables instead - available in lengths from 0.3 m up to 30 m.
This is the 3 m version, suited to installations where the head unit display is mounted a moderate distance from the shunt itself - for example on the opposite side of a cabin, or up on a helm station some way from the battery compartment where the shunt is fitted.
The cable uses a 6-position RJ12 connector at each end, wired specifically for Victron's BMV shunt-to-display communication link. It is not a general-purpose telephone or data cable, and should not be substituted with a standard RJ11/RJ12 phone cable, since the wiring and pinout are matched to the BMV's own protocol.
As with all Victron interconnect cables, this is a low-voltage signal link only - it does not carry battery power - and should be routed away from DC power cabling wherever practical to keep the shunt reading free of electrical noise.
Features
BMV Shunt-to-Display Link
Wired specifically to carry the shunt measurement signal from a BMV battery monitor's shunt to its remote head unit display.
Direct Replacement for the Included Cable
Uses the same 6-position RJ12 connector and pinout as the cable supplied standard with every BMV monitor, so it drops straight in as a longer or shorter replacement.
Range of Standard Lengths
Available from 0.3 m up to 30 m, covering everything from a shunt mounted right next to its display to installations with the two units on opposite sides of a vessel or vehicle.
Not a Generic Phone Cable
Despite the RJ12 connector also being used for telephone cabling, this cable's wiring is matched to the BMV's own communication protocol and should not be substituted with an off-the-shelf phone cable.
