The Victron VE.Bus to BMS 12/200 alternator control cable connects a VE.Bus BMS to a Smart BMS 12/200, enabling the alternator charge control feature of the BMS 12/200 to be used in systems that already have a VE.Bus BMS installed. In this configuration, the Li-ion battery communicates its state to the VE.Bus BMS, which in turn signals the BMS 12/200 over this cable.
Once connected, the BMS 12/200 limits the alternator's charge current to a safe value for the connected lithium battery, and stops the charging process entirely if the VE.Bus BMS reports a battery alarm - protecting both the alternator and the battery from an unsafe charging condition. Without this link, the alternator charge control feature of the BMS 12/200 is not available in a VE.Bus BMS system.
Two important wiring notes apply whenever this cable is used: the Li-ion battery and any loads it powers must not be connected to ground, and in this configuration the BMS 12/200's own DC load output is not operational - loads should be wired according to the guidance in the BMS 12/200's own manual rather than through that output.
This cable connects directly between the two BMS units with a fixed RJ45-style connector at each end; no additional configuration is required once it is plugged in, since the alternator charge control logic runs entirely within the BMS 12/200 and VE.Bus BMS themselves.
Features
Enables BMS 12/200 Alternator Charge Control on VE.Bus BMS Systems
Bridges the VE.Bus BMS and the Smart BMS 12/200 so the BMS 12/200's alternator charge control feature works in systems built around a VE.Bus BMS instead of a standalone setup.
Limits Alternator Charge Current to a Safe Value
Once connected, the BMS 12/200 automatically limits how much charge current the alternator delivers to the lithium battery, protecting both the alternator and the battery from overcurrent.
Stops Charging on a Battery Alarm
The Li-ion battery reports its state to the VE.Bus BMS, which relays it over this cable to the BMS 12/200 - so charging stops immediately if a battery alarm is raised.
Plug-In Connection, No Configuration
Connects directly between the two BMS units with a fixed connector at each end - the charge control logic runs entirely within the BMS 12/200 and VE.Bus BMS, with nothing to configure on the cable itself.
